Spring Trends |
|
|
Spring 2006 is just
around the corner and fashion reports are predicting that styles
will be clean and refreshing. The looks are easy femininity and
casual chic. Runways in Europe, USA and Canada show preferences
of pale hues, soothing and serene tones of cream, beige, white,
aqua and grey. A palette of more saturated colours will come
into play later in the summer.
Accessories that
make a statement include belts, handbags and extra long
necklaces. With the waist line a favourite focus, belts
especially wide ones, are important. Handbags continue to be
strong because of the wide variety of choices, constructed and
unconstructed, small and big. Details such as cut-outs in
contrasting colors are striking. Beads are larger and longer.
Fabric beads, whether wrapped, entwined, macramed or crocheted,
take beading to a new textured dimension...fun, fun, fun!
Trends in
accessories:
►
LAYERING - 2-3
necklaces of different lengths at the same time.
►
BEADS - larger,
chunkier beads, 2-3 strands in mixed colours.
►
COLOUR - Shades of
pale blue, green, violet and rose, feminine and soft. Also seen
are strong ethnic and spicy influences in combination with
antique brass, metal, brown, khaki, coral, cobalt, turquoise,
paprika.
►
METALLIC - Bright
gold in chunky metal looks with large stones.
►
PENDANTS - mid to
larger sized multi-set metal pieces dropped from leather cords,
beaded strands or chains. Worn often in combination with longer
strands.
►
BRACELETS/CUFFS -
bigger and wider is better, large stones set, worn in multiple
charm bracelets with lots of goodies dripping off.
►
EARRINGS -
chandelier style earrings but longer and leaner.
►
BELTS - wide or low
slung

Is it time to get rid of
it? |
|
|
|
Sometimes it seems like our possessions possess us, instead
of the other way around. If you are like the rest of us,
there are things you’ve accumulated that you really don’t
need, want, or enjoy. Although it can be hard to part with
belongings, there’s a simple way to see if you truly care
about something. Put it aside, away, out of sight, in a
cupboard, closet, or storage area. Three months later, go
look at it. Did you miss it? Do you still want it? Love it?
Is it adding to the quality of your life?
|
 |
If not, call your local resale shop to see if it’s
something they can find a good home for, at a profit to you.
Chances are, one of our NARTS member shops can find someone
who’s yearning for just that thing!

Reasonable Redecorating |
|
|
Creativity is
the key to updating a room without spending a fortune. There
are many ways to achieve a dramatic new look at a reasonable
price. Here are some budget ideas for rejuvenating a room:
Change the
color palette.
Painting is one of the easiest ways to get the most impact.
Paint over those white walls... Be brave, be bold! Try
"oops paint" colors that have been mistinted or returned,
and are available at most home improvement stores at a
reduced price.
Create a
"conversational area."
Move furniture
away from the walls and rearrange it to create an intimate
area where guests won't have to shout at one another. If you
don't like it the first time, keep experimenting until you
get it right. The best part? It doesn't cost a dime.
Give old
furniture a new look.
This can be as simple as adding bright new pillows or a
throw to your sofa, changing or decorating a lampshade or
putting new hardware on a dresser.
Use pieces
you love.
Don't worry if
your coffee table and end table are different woods, or if
your couch and chair are from different groups. Matching
furniture is an old fashioned decorating idea. Be eclectic
and bring out your personality. If your room is filled with
things you love, it will match, because it's all you.
Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!
Candles, plants, antiques and artwork add that finishing
touch and personality to a redesigned room.
Shop at your
favorite resale store.
They are a treasure trove of great finds at a fraction of
the original price. Remember... always look for the NARTS
decal. It is Your Assurance of Professionalism.
