Update: CPSC Issued Another Press Release on 1/30/09
CPSC Grants One Year Stay of Testing and Certification Requirements for Certain Products
This CPSC action provides no relief for the resale industry—nothing has changed. Testing and certification requirements have never applied to the secondary market. The resale industry still faces the dilemma of having to comply to the new lead standards of 600ppm or lower while being unable to determine lead content without testing. This is no time to stand down, but time to barrage your elected officials, CPSC and the media with the fact that we find this unacceptable and without any true "guidance."
The resale industry needs a realistic solution that will not trap them between a choice of going out of business or being in violation of the law.
