COVID Came Through and Changed the Landscape of How My Business Operated!

COVID ravished the way our business operated, who I hired, how many hours I was open and how I looked at new leases. In  short it turned my store life upside down, eliminated all in-store sales in 1 day and left me scrambling. Learn how I dealt with one of the scariest moments in our life by buckling down and building a monster online presence that would not only triple our sales the following year, but would allow us flexibility and a better work life balance.

Build a political blip proof online plan so that, when there is an upset in daily walk-in traffic, you can make your store work for you 24/7 and not tax your brains. Learn to hire for certain jobs and think outside the box of 9-5 work hours.

Melissa Morales, owner of two locations of Back By Popular Demand (BBPD) and a NARTS Past Board Member, started working in the consignment industry at the age of 15 with no intention of ever purchasing or owning her own store. That changed in 2002 when she purchased BBBP. Melissa was on the forefront of the LIVE “Online Shopping” for Facebook and has since found a whole new world in online selling.

It Takes Two To Make A Thing Go Right

So many times we think of promotion as just a sale or event, but it actually is much bigger than throwing together something as the holidays sneak up on you (because we can all admit to that, right?)  One of your biggest jobs is promoting all avenues of your store, your inventory, and your team 365 days a year, 24/7 to the largest possible crowd out there. The process begins the moment someone has contact with you by walking in your store, learning & shopping from your website, or scrolling your social media feeds. Your goal should be to never end that relationship, but make it stronger. When you give your customers a reason to connect beyond the “Like Button” they come back and bring their friends.

Unfortunately, it can be easy to let it all slide under the weight of everything else you are trying to just get done to keep your head above water. The good news? Taking a few hours now can put you on the path to start the new year off right. Use your own creativity and let random ideas spark your ingenuity to ultimately make the buzz of your business be the kind of place everyone wants to have.  And heck, everyone loves a good sale or event, so while we’re at it, together we’ll develop a planning and execution calendar for your store in 2022 (and beyond). Because it takes two to make it outta sight.

Angie Houloose, The Consignment Consultant, previously owned Absolutely Her Women’s Consignment store outside of Omaha, Nebraska for 8 years.  Using her background in 911 training, processes & risk management, she combined her knowledge of consignment to start her business by coaching store owners and managers in her MOMENTUM Community Group.
